We're on “The Sunday Times 100 Best Small Companies to Work For” list

Announced on 05 March, 2007 Greene & Company have been listed as the 79th "Best Company" to work for in the UK.

What exactly is our recipe for a happy workforce?

Read what The Sunday Times has to say…

“Greene & Company has spent more than £12,000 on bags. Just one of the environmental activities of the northwest London estate agency is to provide a recycling bag for every resident in the areas it covers. Last year, the company have away more than £20,000, with events such as sponsoring the Ice Ball for the charity Help a London Child. Its six offices are aiming to become paper-free and even cars will be banned for a day, a challenge for the 61 staff if they need to visit properties.

David Pollock, managing director of the firm since it was founded in 1979, consulted other employee-friendly entrepreneurs such as Julian Richer of Richer Sounds to create a business that tries to be friendly for its customers, staff and the environment.
Other good work includes allowing staff to give time to a charity in working hours and people say the firm really does support them in helping good causes (a 75% positive score).

Pollock is highly rated too - people find him inspiring (89%) and have a great deal of faith in him (86%). He meets all staff one-to-one and advocates training, paying for all negotiators to sit National Association of Estate Agency exams.

There are plenty of incentives, not least the money: a third of employees earn more than £35,000 a year. After three years with the firm, there is £100 a year for personal development courses and Greene & Company spends £125 a year per employee on its wellness programme. Staff say the firm really tries to help them (84%).

Awards include “mistake of the month”, and staff agreed on 12 “golden rules” of customer service, losing a life each time they broke one. Anyone with a life left at the end of the year won an iPod or sound system.

Managers appreciate a good job done (82%), care about people as individuals (85%) and how satisfied they are in their jobs (79%). People’s teams are fun to work with too (88%).”
